Most people know me as “fsociety” (as in reference to Mr Robot) in the nix community

especially on the Freenode and Unixchat irc servers. I’ve been using open-source unix based operating systems since 2008 after getting extremely tired and frustrated with the locked down nature of Microsoft’s Windows platform. Ever since then I’ve become an open-source and freedom advocate and am now working in a field where I’m able to use Linux and other unix derivatives on a daily basis.
I started using computers in 1985 at a very young age when I was first introduced to the TRS-80 by my grandfather. This started a life long passion in computer science and engineering. This includes of course; programming languages, hardware modification and general software and hardware design. Recently though the niche I’m more known for within the community is what unix advocates call “ricing”.

I also studied jazz at university and play drums in many numerous bands - permanent and session alike.
